The Swiss IT market is not collapsing, but it no longer operates as it did before. Companies are still hiring, but in a much more targeted way than two years ago.
Positions in cloud, cybersecurity, data engineering, and applied AI continue to be filled very quickly. By contrast, mid-level generalist profiles are waiting significantly longer before finding an employer. The sector nevertheless remains structurally short of talent in the long term: industry projections point to the need for several tens of thousands of additional IT specialists by 2033, a number that neither graduates nor skilled immigration will be sufficient to fill entirely.
For candidates, the consequence is direct: a generic title such as “computer science” or “IT” gets lost among the mass of applications, whereas a precise, demonstrable technical skill is immediately identified by recruiters and automated screening tools. For recruiters, this means revising job descriptions to target concrete skills rather than vague titles, otherwise recruitment timelines will become even longer.
This week
Review your LinkedIn profile and CV: replace the generic title “computer science” or “IT” with the specific technical skill in which you are strongest (cloud, cybersecurity, data, AI), and make it appear in the first three lines of your professional summary.
LinkedIn post idea to adapt
“The IT market is not short of jobs; it is short of precise skills. This week, I narrowed my profile around [your technical skill]. What about you—is your positioning precise enough to stand out?”
