Switzerland’s IT sector is experiencing a persistent period of turbulence, particularly in French-speaking Switzerland.
According to Seco data collected by ICTjournal, unemployment rose slightly in the first half of 2026, with the number of registered unemployed increasing from 6,958 to 7,186 between January and June 2026. The Lake Geneva region is by far the hardest hit, reaching an unemployment rate of 6.54%, well ahead of northwestern Switzerland (3.95%) and Zurich (3.91%). The sector has been experiencing turbulence since spring 2023, and with the rise of generative artificial intelligence, vacancies are becoming scarcer while the number of jobseekers is increasing.
