A multibillion-dollar agreement between Microsoft and the French start-up Mistral AI has reignited the debate about European digital sovereignty.

According to Aldo Podestà, co-founder and director of the Swiss AI start-up Giotto.ai, Europeans must regain the ability to cooperate with one another without submitting to American giants. He stresses that the future will not necessarily belong to the largest models, but to systems that reason most effectively with the fewest possible resources.

For Swiss and French tech professionals, the message is direct: scarce skills will not be limited to those who know how to use the major American models, but will include those capable of designing more resource-efficient and autonomous architectures.
