Switzerland’s job market improved slightly in the third quarter of 2026. The index compiled by Adecco and the University of Zurich rose by 0.8 points both quarter on quarter and year on year, reaching 131.5 points.
This momentum was driven by manual and technical occupations, with construction workers at the top of the list, followed by electricians and multi-skilled mechanics. According to the report’s authors, one quarter of these occupations face a moderate risk of automation by AI, compared with only 2% at high risk.
For career changers, the message is clear: technical and manual fields currently offer relative job security in the face of automation, unlike many administrative positions.
